Office Design Advice

September 5, 2019 by OSYB Staff

Your employees are a very valuable resource and their productivity is dependent upon a number of factors. The quality of the work environment is an area that requires some thought and investment. Intuit QuickBooks shares some tips that you should consider to improve the quality of the work space:

  • Regulate temperature – temperature is the most common environmental complaint of workers. Even though ‘perfect temperature’ is personal, it is important that concerns about temperature can be shared and that reasonable complaints are addressed in a timely manner with some possible solutions such as moving work areas away from cooling vents, etc.
  • Work on using natural lighting – work on getting as much natural light as possible and choose compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs that more closely mimic natural light, and offer other indirect lighting options.
  • Add some color, as studies over the years have shown that there is some correlation between color and productivity. Keep these colors in minds as possible options:
    • red
    • blue
    • yellow
    • green
  • Bring the outdoors indoor – a couple of new studies share that there is correlation between productivity and plant presence in an office landscape and the increased value of plants’ filtering air and reducing bacteria and mold.
  • Seek out office furniture that is designed for physical comfort and considers health concernss. Work-related injuries take away from productivity, and the overall well-being of individuals and the entire office team.
