How to Legally Add Credit Card Surcharges to Customer Bills

Merchants are able to surcharge Visa and MasterCard credit-card transactions. These credit card companies changed their rules as part of a settlement reached with a nationwide class of Visa- and MasterCard-accepting merchants. The lawsuit alleged, among other things, that the rules prohibiting surcharging were anticompetitive and in violation of the Sherman Act.
