Beware Latest SPAM email NOT from INTUIT or Quickbooks!!!

February 10, 2012 by Ed Becker

Don’t be fooled by malicious email supposedly from Intuit

There is an email going around that OSYB wants you to be aware of. The email claims to be from “INTUIT.com.” If you use QuickBooks or other Intuit products, you may think this is legit. Don’t be fooled! It is not legit in any manner.

Below is a sample of the email one of my clients received just this week:

Subject: Urgent! Tax information needed!

Dear Sir/Madam,

In order to guarantee that correct information is being sustained on our systems, as well as to be able to grant you better quality of service; INTUIT INC. has partaken in the Internal Revenue Service [IRS] Name and TIN Matching Program.

We have found out, that your name and/or Employer Identification Number, that is specified on your account is not in compliance with the data on file with the SSA.

In order for INTUIT INC. to update your account, please use the following link.

Best regards,
INTUIT INC.
Corporate Headquarters
2632 Marine Way
Mountain View, CA 94043

I removed the links from the above email so that no one reading my blog will click the link. The link in the email goes to a malicious site, NOT intuit.com.

The above spam email is also making the rounds with an alternate subject:

Subject: Please verify your tax information ASAP.

Always carefully review any emails like this that comes to you. Intuit, IRS and State Agencies will never correspond via email and/or request information. Keep in mind if it was really the, they would have this information already. Be cautious, be smart and be on guard at all times.

And of course, if you’re unsure about the legitimacy of an email you receive that says it’s from Intuit or QuickBooks, feel free to contact OutSource Your Books and we’ll let you know whether it’s safe.
