Should You Consider Telemedicine?

November 8, 2018 by OSYB Staff

So, what is telemedicine?   “Telemedicine is the ability to provide remote diagnosis and treatment of patients by licensed healthcare professionals virtually, often by phone or video.”  It is a supplemental service only for non-emergency situations and definitely not meant to replace all healthcare services.  If you are self-employed or own a small business, you should look into this option.  FEMCITY shares some of their observations:

  1. Appointment scheduling can be less cumbersome
  2. Telemedicine can save you travel and waiting time
  3. Some services are open 24/7
  4. Telemedicine is accessible from anywhere including your home, as long as you have access to telecommunication

Keep in mind that no service is perfect and there are flaws and benefits to both virtual and actual medical visits.  Telemedicine is becoming widely used and offered with many insurance plans.  So, whether you have insurance through your company, pay for your own health insurance, or provide health insurance for employees, you should look into telemedicine services now or when your open enrollment for healthcare comes up.  Weigh the pros and cons for yourself or with your employees.
