Getting to Know the Self-employed

QuickBooks Self-employed surveyed 923 self-employed people to document the reasons for being self-employed, how and why they got started and what motivates them to succeed. Here are some of the results of the survey:
- Why self-employment? They have a hobby that they are passionate about and have wanted to pursue it for a long time.
- How did they decide on a self-employment track (in order of greatest response first):
- a long-time hobby
- desire
- passion
- talent
- something easy to start
- high potential for income
- fell into it
- moved from employed to self-employed in same work
- family business or craft
3. Some characteristics that the self-employed share:
- life long learners
- passion not necessity drives them
- willing to make sacrifices
- value time over money and people over profits
- tend to be jack-of-all-trades and master of none
- unafraid of working with smarter people
- tend to more cautious than risk-taking
