Entrepreneurs, How’s Your Work/Life Balance Fairing?

January 15, 2019 by OSYB Staff

Intuit Quickbooks shares survey results from 500 self-employed individuals on the positives and negatives of being the captain of your own business.  Here are some results:

  1.  Most work an average of 40 hours a week.
  2.  Most work on weekends, even while clocking in an average of 30-40 hours per week.
  3.   A lot say that they have missed personal important events due to their work schedule that includes weekends.
  4.  The greatest sacrifice is the loss of time for rest and relaxation; staying up late at night worrying and working while sick contribute to this factor.
  5.  Vacations are a high priority and taken once a year with few working while on vacation.
  6.  Cash flow and uncertainty of the future rank highest on their list of concerns.
  7.   Most are awake anywhere between 5 AM – 7 AM, most finish work between 4 PM – 6 PM, but the next highest ranking group was those that close shop at 11 PM.

Most of the respondents found value in being their own boss despite some of the trade-offs.  Control of their schedule, benefits of working from home, and the ability take vacations once a year were important contributors.
