Accounting Today shares some interesting insights as to why increasing your client base needs to be fortified with a solid digital marketing platform.  “For example, one study showed that tactics like sponsoring an event were responsible for less than 1 percent of referrals, while social relationships drove about 21.8 percent of referrals. By contrast, visible expertise was responsible for fully 27 percent of actual referrals.”

So how do you go about modernizing your marketing?  Here are some tips:

  1. Take the time to understand how digital marketing can enhance your current marketing activities, then make a commitment to digital marketing.  Research shows that a marriage of on-line and real world marketing can improve your growth 4 times faster.
  2. Take the time to understand which of your marketing tactics work and which do not work, then refine your strategies.
  3. Perform a comprehensive assessment of your firm with the goal of of understanding your company’s reputation, visibility, competitive advantage and other measures and use this data to build a personalized marketing strategy.
  4. Separate yourself from the pack, either by specializing or highlighting your unique voice.
  5. Build strategic partnerships with other organizations that can complement your services and also consider cross-marketing.
  6. Develop a high-performance website that represents the best that you have to offer.
  7. Consistently gather and measure the right data to adjust your marketing plan, discard that which is not working, and repeat what is.

Like everything else in life, a good plan doesn’t happen overnight – be consistent in performing evaluations, make adjustments, think outside of the box, and make changes whenever necessary.
