Can Spouses Help each Other Lower Their Self Employment Tax?

Even if you run a business jointly with your spouse the IRS wants you to attribute your income separately for self-employment taxes. Why? This maximizes social security credits. A couple with separate businesses tried to off-set the losses from one business against the income from another, the tax court ruled against them. Read more here.
