The Best Personal Finance Apps
August 28, 2014 by Ed Becker
We tend to be addicted to our smartphones. There is an app for nearly everything you could possibly think of, and then some that you’d never think about. We have calorie counting apps, exercise apps, games and social media apps. But what about budgeting or finance apps to help you see what you are spending? There are many of those too. Finance apps are getting much more useful and are even being designed better. Plus, many great finance apps are free. There are some apps that are exclusively for the Android or Apple iOS, and some for both, as well as others that also have web based functionality.
- Mint.com
Web-based, iPhone, Android- Free
This app appears to be the hands down favorite of finance apps, touting that it is fast becoming the eBay of personal finance apps. You can include all of your accounts: checking, savings, credit cards, and even investments. - Moneywiz
iPhone only- $4.99
Immediate cloud sync, enter all your accounts, set low balance alerts. And it allows you to customize budgets and categories. - HomeBudget with Sync
iPhone only- $4.99 to download
This is a great app, easy to use, and easy to setup. It syncs in the cloud and keeps multiple phones on the same page if you choose. - Easy Envelope Budget Aid
iPhone, Android, Web-based- Free or plus version at monthly or annual fee
This is like the digital version of envelope budgeting but it goes a step further and syncs to all devices and web family sharing so that everyone is on the same page. - Dollarbird
iPhone only- New subscription price $4.99/mo or $49.99 annual
The only con about this app is that there is no sync function. Otherwise it is an awesome app.
The above is just a sampling of some of the best apps according to user and professional reviews. There are also some great finance apps that are more targeted more specifically, instead of your overall finances, budgeting and spending. These can be used in conjunction to the finance apps to help keep you more in line with budgets and spending. Personal finance apps have certaintly come a long way in such a short time so why not take advantage?
